Aladdin

Aladdin

As our look back over some of the best of Disney continues we stop today in 1992 and the release of Aladdin.

A personal fave of mine it's hard to believe that this movie is almost twenty years old - and yet it is still as popular as ever.

Aladdin, a street urchin, accidentally meets Princess Jasmine, who is in the city undercover. They love each other, but she can only marry a prince.

It was Aladdin that really gave birth to big named actor voicing animation characters as Robin Williams stepped up to the plate to give an unforgettable vocal performance as Genie.

Yes it's Williams who really steals the show as he gives an energetic performance to make the character of Genie leap of the screen and become one of Disney's most loved creations.

But it's not just the performance of Williams that makes this movie so great it's the fast paced and sharp witted script - not to mention some great musical number 'Friend Like Me', 'Prince Ali' and 'A Whole New World' being the most well known.

As we have come to expect from Disney over the years the animation is damn near perfect as the city of Agrabah is brought to life in all it's splendour as well are swept away to a different land.

This really is a magical carpet ride of a movie that mixes action, comedy and romance almost seamlessly as well as brings a whole host of colourful characters to the screen.

Aladdin is just a treat from start to finish and a movie that you cannot help but get lost in as you will the central characters to triumph over evil.

The nineties was another strong era for Disney with the likes of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King but Aladdin also sits up there as another triumph for the animation giants.

You don't need a child in tow to enjoy this movie as you will get swept along with the characters, the story and the outstanding performance from Mr Williams - he really should have been Oscar nominated!
