Christopher Plummer in The Last Station
Christopher Plummer has enjoyed a career that has spanned over fifty years but this is his very first Oscar nomination.

Matt Damon in Invictus
Matt Damon is already an Oscar winner, picking up Best original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting.
Since then Damon has become one of Hollywood's biggest and most bankable leading men. This is his second acting Oscar nomination as he took on the role of Francois Pienaar in Invictus.
Clint Eastwood's Nelson Mandela movie was expected to dominate the award circuit but this success has failed to materialise.
But Damon has picked up Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations, also finding nomination success with The Informant.
Stanley Tucci in The Lovely Bones
Actor Stanley Tucci has been flying the flag for Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones, another movie that has not lived up to it's pre-award season hype.
