Christoph Waltz

Christoph Waltz

We have taken a look at the Best Supporting Actress now it's time to take a look back over Best Supporting Actor category.

Somehow I doubt that we will get any surprise winner in this category this gong is going to just one man!

Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds

To say that Waltz is the smoking hot favourite for this awards would be a major understatement with no other actor getting a look in this award season.

His performance is pitch perfect in the Quentin Tarantino directed war movie hand he thoroughly deserves all of the accolades that have been coming his week in recent weeks.

The role of Col. Hans Landa has won over all of the critics and has picked up gongs at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, Washington DC Area Film Critics Association Awards and
New York Film Critics Circle Awards, amongst others.

He also went on to pick up the awards at the Golden Globes and Baftas and will absolutely walk away with the Oscar.

Christopher Plummer in The Last Station

Christopher Plummer has enjoyed a career that has spanned over fifty years but this is his very first Oscar nomination.

The Last Station sees him take on the role of Leo Tolstoy alongside James McAvoy and Helen Mirren.

Directed by Michael Hoffman the movie is a historical drama that illustrates Russian author Leo Tolstoy's struggle to balance fame and wealth with his commitment to a life devoid of material things.

For his central performance he picked up nominations at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Matt Damon in Invictus

Matt Damon is already an Oscar winner, picking up Best original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting.

Since then Damon has become one of Hollywood's biggest and most bankable leading men. This is his second acting Oscar nomination as he took on the role of Francois Pienaar in Invictus.

Clint Eastwood's Nelson Mandela movie was expected to dominate the award circuit but this success has failed to materialise.

But Damon has picked up Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations, also finding nomination success with The Informant.

Stanley Tucci in The Lovely Bones

Actor Stanley Tucci has been flying the flag for Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones, another movie that has not lived up to it's pre-award season hype.

But Tucci's performance as child killer George Harvey has provided the actor with his first Oscar nomination.

While he has not picked up any major gongs for his performance he has bagged nods at all the big ceremonies including the Baftas, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Woody Harrelson in The Messenger

Sean Penn is backing Woody Harrelson to win the Oscar for his performance in The Messenger, the actor's second Oscar nod of his career.

Harrelson takes on the role of Tony Stone who has the task of telling families that their loved ones have been killed in action.

Predication to win: Christoph Waltz

Winner will be announced 7th March
