Aaron Johnson

Aaron Johnson

At the end of 2009 Aaron Johnson made quiet a name for himself as he took on the role of John Lennon in Nowhere Boy and he is one acting talent to keep a very sharp eye on.

The British born actor kicked off his acting career in TV in 2000 when he appeared in All My Sons by Arthur Miller.

After a couple of years he was mixing television and movie appearances with the likes of Shanghai Knights, Dead Cool, Behind Closed Doors and The Bill under his belt.

These small roles kept coming as Johnson built up his experience both on the big and small screen. But his breakthrough came in 2008 with Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

The story centres on a 14-year-old Georgia who keeps a diary about the ups and downs of being a teenager, including the things she learns about kissing.

He took on the role of lead male Robbie who's friendship with Georgia begins to develop into something else.

The movie was met with generally positive reviews and Johnson hasn't looked back.

But it's his performance as John Lennon in biopic picture Nowhere Boy that really has had everyone talking in recent months.

Nowhere Boy tells the never before seen story of John Lennon's childhood. John Lennon is an ordinary fifteen year old boy on the streets of Liverpool.

Funny, smart, naughty, a real edge to him. But life is not simple for John - he grew up in a family of secrets and was raised by his Aunt Mimi from the age of five.

When he is suddenly reacquainted with his mother, Julia, they form an unbreakable bond. A bitter war rages between the two sisters for John's love.

Faced with bringing it to an end, he learns the secret heartbreak of his past. But his mother gives him one great gift - music. A wayward boy finds his voice, and walks into The Beatles.

Directed by Sam Taylor Wood the movie was met well critically and it, along with Johnson's central performance, was put under the spotlight as the movie closed the London Film Festival.

And now Hollywood has come calling as Johnson takes the lead role in one of this summer blockbusters Kick Ass.

Based on the comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.Johnson stars as Dave Lizewski, an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero.

He joins an all star cast of Nicolas Cage, Mark Strong and Christopher Mintz-Plasse with Layer Cake filmmaker Matthew Vaughn behind the camera.

Chatroom is another movie on the horizon for the actor this year but Kick Ass is the one everyone should be watching our for it could be the role that sees Johnson arrive in Hollywood.
