A Man’s Story profiles leading British fashion designer and Ghanian-born, Ozwald Boateng; his design, his business, his personal life.
Charismatic, glamorous, inspirational, hard-working and very humanely flawed, Boateng’s personal and professional triumphs and set-backs are the fascinating heart of this film which is set against a back-drop of models, movie stars and fabulous locations. But every dream has a price.
Director Varon Bonicos was initially allowed to film Boateng for 6 months but some how that ended up being 12 years.
His camera witnessed Boateng become the youngest man to open his own store in London’s prestigious Savile Row, appointed as the creative director of French design house Givenchy and go through 2 marriage break ups. Boateng is also interesting from a sociological perspective; as a black and heterosexual man he breaks the stereotypes of the fashion industry.
One of Britain’s leading suit tailors with a clientele list that includes Richard Branson, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishbourne, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Chris Rock, Will Smith, Forest Whitaker and countless other A-list stars, Boateng has also done quite a bit of wardrobe design for films including The Matrix, Tomorrow Never Dies, Oceans 13, Hannibal, Eastern Promises, Gangster Number One, Alfie, and Miami Vice.
His appreciation for cinema has inspired him to write and direct 10 short films for his fashion campaigns.
