To celebrate the release of 21 Jump Street this week, we went back to find the best undercover cop comedies.
- Kindergarten Cop
Character: Detective John Kimble (Arnold Schwarzenegger)
Synopsis: Surely combining a secret drugs bust with a bunch of cute Kindergarteners makes for perfect good old fashioned family entertainment!
This movie sees no-nonsense police detective Kimble go undercover as a Kindergarten teacher in order to catch notorious drug dealer Cullen Crisp!
Top Cop Quote: "Get some rest and don't worry. I've been working undercover for a long time. They're six-year-olds. How much trouble can they be?"
- White Chicks
Characters: Kevin Copeland (Shawn Wayans) Marcus Copeland (Marlon Wayans)
Synopsis: Two disgraced FBI agents take going undercover to an entirely different level.
The two African American males pose as the white American women they were assigned to protect against a kidnap plot. Now that is job dedication!
Top Cop Quote: Kevin: "First of all my doctor totally messes up my nose job. I ask him to make me looked like Gwyneth Paltrow, I get off the surgery table looking life freakin' Shrek.
"And then I get here and Mr. Harper makes me feel like I'm some dumb blonde with big boobs!"
- Rush Hour
Characters: Chris Tucker (Carter) Jackie Chan (Lee)
Synopsis: Cultures and tempers clash when drug busting Cop Lee’s daughter is kidnapped and he forced to work alongside standalone Cop Carter to ensure her safe return.
Two culturally different cops who aren’t cultured enough to be nice to each other!
Top Cop Quote: Carter: "This is the LAPD. We're the most hated cops in all the free world. My own mama's ashamed of me. She tells everybody I'm a drug dealer!"
- The Other Guys
Characters: Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) and Gamble (Will Ferrell)
Synopsis: Mismatched and disgraced NYPD detectives Hoitz and Gamble decide to try and look past their differences and find their time to shine when they take on a huge case, with consequences that take Buddy-Cop comedy to a hilarious new level!
Top Cop Quote: Terry Hoitz: What? No, I said 'Good cop, bad cop'. I'm the bad cop, you're the good cop. Allen Gamble: Okay, then there it is. That's it. I thought you said 'Bad cop, bad cop'.
-The Naked Gun: From the Files of the Police Squad!
Character: Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielson)
Synopsis: Foolhardy Police Officer Drebin is assigned to foil an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II. Think slap stick, think obvious jokes, think one of the most classic cop comedies of the past 50 years!
Top Cop Quote: Drebin: "Protecting the Queen's safety is a task that is gladly accepted by Police Squad. No matter how silly the idea of having a queen might be to us, as Americans we must be gracious and considerate hosts."
21 Jump Street is out now.
