2001: A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey

Stanley Kubrick is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and 2001: A Space Odyssey still remains of his best and most loved movies.

It is hard to believe that the movie was released back in 1968 but it was a piece of landmark cinema because the director showed what could be achieved in movies.

The special effects were groundbreaking for the time as he changed the way that we watched movie forever.

This is perhaps the greatest sci-fi movie in the genre as Kubrick explored humanity from relationships to technology and society and behaviour.

The movie follows mankind after they find a mysterious, obviously artificial, artifact buried on the moon

So with the intelligent computer HAL a group sets off on a quest.

The filmmaker also explores our fascination with space and the mystery and uncertainty that it holds - it really is a stunning movie.

He uses music in the movie to beautifully, it almost acts as a special effect on it's own.

He also pushed narrative and story telling to the limit as it really is a very ambiguous plot - he showed that you didn't have to always explain every element of a story.

This is one of the greatest epics that have ever graced the big screen and it has influenced filmmakers of generations - thinking outside of the box really can work well.
