Steve McQueen is one of the most exciting filmmakers around having brought us Hunger and Shame in recent years.
And now he is back with his brand new film 12 Years A Slave, which is based on the autobiography of the same name by Solomon Northup.
Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Solomon in the movie as a man who is sold into slavery in 1841.
This is set to be another hard hitting and powerful film from McQueen and in the new trailer Ejiofor gives a mighty fine performance.
A terrific cast bas been brought together for the film as Ejiofor is joined by Michael Fassbender - this is his third film with McQueen - Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti and Brad Pitt.
This is the first trailer for the film as we get a proper look at this movie:
Being big fans of McQueen here are FemaleFirst this is one of the movies that we have been looking forward to for some time.
McQueen is a director who is not afraid to tackle hard hitting subject matter and yet he gives it real heart.
However we do have quite a wait before we can see the movie as it is will not be released until January of next year.
12 Years A Slave is based on an incredible true story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.
Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender) as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity.
In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Pitt) forever alters his life.
It may only be July but we are already looking at possible Oscar contenders... and don't be surprised if you see 12 Years A Slave in the running for some major gongs at the beginning of next year.
12 Years A Slave is released 24th January 2014.
