Has anyone seen the new THINK! Campaign that highlights the dangers of using a mobile phone when driving on the TV?
Wow! It is very very powerful and had me on the edge of my seat gasping in disbelief at the impact it made on me.
The £1.5m campaign will remind drivers to switch off before getting behind the wheel and has been launched by the Department of Transport to coincide with the first anniversary of the introduction of tougher penalties for using a mobile phone when driving.
It features a wife calling her husband on his mobile. He mentions he is on his way home in the car so she carries on chatting saying the children are in bed, dinner is ready then, bang! Silence until the stark realisation he has had an accident hits her.
Now we all know taking on a mobile phone when driving is distracting and affects the ability to react to dangerous situations, making it four times more likely to have a crash. But where this advert hits home, is because they have put the ownness on the other foot.
How many times have we talked to someone who we know is driving? Do we hang up? No we carry on. Well not any more after watching this advert.
Well done DOT you have actually done something right.
