Well as the sun finally shows its face in the UK; I fumble around the house trying to find my new stylish pink sunglasses.
But according to new research called the Summer Driving Vision report from female-friendly car insurer, Sheilas Wheels, nearly 12 million fashion-conscious female motorists, oh that is so me, could be putting themselves and other drivers at risk by wearing unsuitable sunglasses when behind the wheel.
Oh no! I love my pink shades! Apparently fewer than one in five (18%) women drivers choose a pair of sunglasses specifically for driving. Three fifths (61%) say they opt for style over safety when buying summer shades basing their choice on appearance instead of driving practicality. Absolutely right on.
Female motorists who choose pink or blue lenses could put themselves at risk as these tints can distort vision and make driving hazardous. Oh dear, thats me and as a motoring journalist extraordinaire, I should know better. It also explains the few mishaps I have had at traffic lights.
The Eyecare Trust, who was commissioned by Sheilas Wheels to carry out this research, recommends drivers choose neutral lens colours that provide true colour definition such as grey or brown.
Boring. But we should heed this advice so with a shed of a tear or two, I sadly lay my pink shades to sunglasss heaven. Sob Sob!
