Motorists are urged to drop in to their local Kwik-Fit centre for tyre checks following startling findings that over a third (39%) of service stationsâ tyre gauges are damaged, out of order, or giving incorrect readings.
I find this so utterly frustrating when they are broken as it is so dangerous to drive on under or over inflated tyres and according to Kwik- Fit; one in five UK motorists are driving around with the incorrect tyre pressure.
Driving a car that has an under-inflated tyre can result in sudden tyre failure, such as a blow out or tread damage, which can lead to potential loss of control of the vehicle. Motorists with an under-inflated tyre may also experience poor handling and braking performance.
But this report is rather worrying if the innocent motorist relies on tyre pressures from their garage, to find out later, with possible disastrous consequences, the gauge is wrong.
The best thing I ever purchased was my own tyre pressure kit that simply plugs into the old cigarette lighter and can easily reach all four tyres. I keep it in the boot all the time knowing it works and the added convenience of being able to use it as and when I want or need.
So, my advice to you all is to buy one yourselves and donât rely on these garages.
