Car horns are driving us Brits beeping mad with 90 % of motorists regularly violating the Highway Code by using their car horn inappropriately. In fact, Brits are so horn-happy, careful on the spelling here- that they toot their car horns over 30 billion times a year. What a racket!
70% of those questioned said that the main reason for using their horn was 'impolite' driving by others on the road with trying to push into a traffic queue at the last minute top of the list at 24%, followed by taking a disabled person's parking spot when not disabled (23 %) and pulling out in front of a fellow motorist (19 %).
Despite the traditional British reputation for impeccable manners, the sound of a car horn literally causes good behaviour to go 'out of the window' as more than one in ten (13 %) of motorists questioned by esure car insurance admitted to aggressive behaviour as the result of a blown horn. Oh dear! Oh dear!
But could this be due to the fact the beep of a traditional horn is so aggressive sounding? On this note, the motorist’s questioned were asked what sort of noise should a horn emit.
Well, I think everyone has gone mental as top of the list was Lion ‘roaring’, followed by Cow 'mooing', Owl 'hooting'.
What sort of honking motorists are we turning into?
