If anyone is planning a trip to the MOT station, there is good news as following a decision by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) they have agreed to release information regarding how MOT stations were evaluated during the recent round of Vehicle Testing Station (VTS) risk assessments.
âMOT testing stations will be able to achieve even better results in their risk assessments, now that the criteria for appraisal has finally been made public,â according to Stephen Coles, Head of MOT Operations for the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF).
Although VOSA published a best practice guide with general principles, they had not previously released details of how they calculated the risk score. This information has now been added to the Transport Office website and includes a copy of the check list used and a risk scoring reference guide.
The web link for this information is www.transportoffice.gov.uk then chose MOT Garages and Testers, and then MOT Enforcement Transformation.
The RMIF applauds the fact that this information is in the public domain, as it will aid MOT stations and motoring organisations that provide external quality support to better improve VTS ratings and hence test quality.
Coles adds: âJust imagine how much more VOSA would have helped to improve the MOT quality if it had been made available to test stations prior to the assessment process.â
Absolutely. Talk about the blind leading the blind.
