Londoners would rather give up their cars than miss Top Gear. Boris may have scrapped the tax for Chelsea tractors but eight in ten Londoners would rather give up their cars and save themselves about £1,200 a year in petrol than sacrifice their television.
The survey by the Sustainable Transport Department of the London Borough of Redbridge has also highlighted the wide disparity between men and women's attitudes to steps they could take to make their lives more environmentally friendly. All women claim to be environmentally friendly and all recycle, compared to just 36 per cent of men. On the other hand, a third of women would give up their cars to avoid recycling compared to one in ten men.
While male Londoners tend to put a higher priority on the use of their cars over other environmentally friendly initiatives, women drivers would rather sacrifice their cars than turn off their central heating or install solar panels. The cost of implementing green changes also factored highly on the priority scale for women with two thirds choosing to give up their cars over paying for solar panels to be installed, where as eight out of ten men would happily pay the price to keep their cars. Over half of women said they would rather stay warm and surrender their cars than turn off the central heating compared to just one per cent of men.
As top Gear has to be the best thing on TV, the wait should soon be over as the next series arrives soon.
