The giant Porsche manufacturers are taking on the giant guru of ‘lets have a go at motorists again’, Ken Livingstone in a judicial review. Porsche Cars Great Britain are going to the courts to challenge the decision from the Livingstone camp to increase congestion charge from £8 to a whopping £25 for cars emitting more than 226g/km of CO2.

Why is Porsche taking this action? Well they claim the increase is completely out of proportion with the rest of the congestion charging scheme and the CO2 savings that are anticipated by the TfL.

The rise for residents in the congestion zone will be even higher as people that are currently paying just 80 pence per day will also have to pay the £25 charge. By their calculations that is a massive 3,000 %. In the run up to the hotly contested mayoral election, the proposal appears motivated by politics rather than sensible policymaking. TfL itself has admitted that the emissions savings will be minimal.

So why do it? Readers living outside London, take note, for this shambolic scheme could be coming to your city. So I am with Porsche here who feel its time to draw the line on this issue, despite the fact that £25 to a Porsche owner is a drop in the ocean.

Principles, we must stand by our principles
