Motorists With Illegal Speed Camera Detectors To Be Refunded

If you are one of those motorist who brought a speed camera detector, be warned some devices are illegal and if you are caught using an illegal speed camera detection device, or even carrying one in your car, you will face a fine plus penalty points on your licence.

So what exactly is an illegal detector? Basically it is a detector that picks up a signal from a speed camera or police laser gun. However, speed camera spotters that use sat nav are to remain legal to use.

There is good news for consumers as mail order specialist, Car Parts Direct is offering a full refund to customers wanting to return banned devices and will upgrade them to a new legal Satellite Navigator and Camera spotter. Customers that bought in the last six months will get the full £199 off the purchase price. Those that bought more than six months ago get 50% off the cost.

Argos and Halfords have also sold devices that have now been made illegal, but, to date, have not offered a return option to their customers.

So yet again the government has clobbered the motorists who bought radar detectors in good faith, when they were legal to use. By banning them, thousands of motorists are out of pocket and with no protection against cameras.

Well there is one protection. Obey the speed limits. How quaint
