Following this week’s launch of the used car economy label developed by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) and launched by Transport Minister Sadiq Khan,, vehicle information provider HPI has updated its own CO2 certificate which comes free alongside its HPI Check. The HPI CO2 certificate is available to private buyers now, exclusively from HPI and will arm used car buyers with greater information on the environmental impact of cars.
HPI is the only company currently authorised by the LowCVP to produce their own approved version of the used car economy label. The HPI CO2 Certificate provides customers with the most advanced information available on the market, enabling them to make greener, environmentally conscious decisions that will help reduce their carbon footprint, as well as cut the cost of fuel expenditure.
The LowCVP label launch on 2nd November was focussed on dealers signing up to the voluntary scheme, and more than 2,000 have joined so far. However, buyers choosing to buy used cars privately will also be able to obtain this information when they buy an HPI Check, where it will be included as standard, and for no extra charge.
Nicola Johnson, HPI’s Consumer Services Manager, explains, "Motorists are far more clued-up today when it comes to making decisions on buying a used car. By expanding the information we offer on our CO2 certificate, we want to provide consumers with the facts that will ensure they are making the best choice for them, both in terms of the environment and their car’s future running costs. The updated certificate features a breakdown of fuel efficiency, and displays miles per gallon(mpg) figures, average fuel cost per 12,000 miles and the cost of taxing the vehicle(VED) in addition to the well-recognised CO2 emissions chart. In this way, we are empowering consumers with essential knowledge at-a-glance, providing a simpler way of comparing choices and assessing these important factors."
The handy mpg information and estimated fuel cost will warn buyers of fuel-guzzling vehicles that are harmful to the environment costly to run. The estimate is based on average fuel costs for the year (fixed every March) and a mixture of both town centre and motorway driving. Additionally, the VED is assessed based on the CO2 emissions, which are clearly displayed in the colour-coded table using the industry standard CO2 emissions rating chart, from levels A-M.
Nicola Johnson concludes, "Households in the UK are still feeling the pinch due to the economy, which can make financing a vehicle an added burden. This is why fuel efficiency has increasingly become an important factor in the decision-making process of purchasing a second-hand car. With the rising concern for our environment, obtaining a CO2 certificate with your HPI Check will make it easier to choose the best car for you and the environment."
As well as providing CO2 emissions information, an HPI Check can also confirm if the vehicle has been written-off, stolen, is on outstanding finance, has a mileage discrepancy or has had a plate change. The check also includes a used car valuation, 7 days free comprehensive insurance from Aviva, and a stolen V5C/logbook check as standard.
Additional protection comes from the HPI Guarantee, which provides up to £30,000 financial reimbursement in the event of the car not being everything it seems or the data held by HPI being inaccurate at the time of the check being conducted. The HPI Check is the only history check guaranteeing used car buyers cover for cloned vehicles*.
To conduct an HPI Check, costs just £19.99 available from hpicheck.com.
