We all know that sometimes it feels like the children are ruling the nest but in Norfolk this has become quite a reality.
For the schoolchildren there are certainly laying down the law to speeding motorists in a powerful way to kerb these dangerous antics.
Pupils and teachers at four schools in Norfolk are so fed up with motorists ignoring the 30 mph speed limit that they have joined up with the police to launch their own crackdown.
Dozens of motorists caught in speed traps near the schools have been left thoroughly ashamed after police brought the children up to their cars to plead with them to slowdown.
The drivers are offered either a ticking off by the pupils or a £60 fined penalty fine and three penalty points.
PC Leo Blyth said: "Having the children tell the motorists off actually has more of an impact than a police officer doing it."
I could not agree more. What a fantastic idea. Can you imagine the shame these drivers will feel when a ten year old tells them off? And quite rightly so for these offending drivers could in fact be the killers of these innocent children by their blatant disregard for breaking the law.
I feel like starting a similar campaign outside our school.
