The Silverstone Classic is a spectacular display of machinery from six decades of Grand Prix and Sportscar racing.
In 2006 the weekend was expanded to run over three days in order to accommodate the number of races scheduled and the new formula was a great success.
More than forty car clubs and over 1000 classic cars are on display on the infield of Silverstone Circuit and the slight relaxation of the programme gives spectators the chance to enjoy it all.
Itâs a glorious family event and highlights include hot air balloons, the period funfair, air displays and an antique and craft market. In the centre trade village you will find art and memorabilia stands and autojumble and the open paddock allows everyone to get close to the cars, speak to the owners and drivers and relive the glory days of motor racing with the sounds and smells of ârealâ racing cars.
The RetroRun will take place on Saturday 28 July - a perfect time of year for a gentle drive through the winding lanes and countryside of the Shires. Whichever route you choose, breakfast will be available for you in the morning, a comfort and coffee stop is scheduled for halfway along your route and, on arrival at Silverstone Circuit you will park in a specially reserved area on the infield. There will then be plenty of time to enjoy the afternoonâs events. On Sunday morning you will be invited onto the track for a celebratory two lap parade of the full circuit with informed commentary.
The RetroRun is not a competitive event and is open to pre-1987 road cars. There are no time limits on the routes, the emphasis being on a relaxed and leisurely drive entirely at your own pace.
