The British spend a fortune on loans and finance in order to get the flashiest motors, and yet a recent survey from www.motorinsurance.co.uk, found that many UK drivers neglect their vehicles. The poll revealed that 27% of motorists admitted to only getting their car serviced when they could afford it, and 9% would only bother if they felt it absolutely necessary. Hardly surprising with some garages charging over £100 per hour!

15% stated that they never bother with servicing, with some of these admitting that they did not even know how to make basic checks on their car, like tyre pressure, oil and water. This is poor considering today’s driving test covers checks to ensure that a vehicle is safe for use, like tyre pressure, oil, coolant and brake fluid levels. Only 49%, just under half, could proudly say that they always remember the date for their cars regular service.

I find this extraordinary considering how much in taxes we now have to pay simply to drive our car down the road. By not servicing the car according to the manufacturers handbook will possibly lead to more breakdowns or accidents due to worn parts. Can you imagine how you would feel if a fatality was caused by your cars faulty brakes because you could not afford to service your car.

On top of that a car without a full service history will not be worth the same as one with.

Come on Brits. You have a duty of care here
