With Christmas shopping and the party season in full swing, this is the time of year when us Brits want to feel like we’ve got plenty of money in the bank.
A survey has revealed that £1million is the amount that would make the difference when it comes to wealth, with almost a half of us believing that you’re not rich until you have £1million.
However, although a million is still the golden figure, the research reveals that there are some things us proud Brits still wouldn’t do for £1million, no matter how strapped for cash we all are at this time of year.
Nearly 40% of those surveyed by Plenty household towel to support its current cash promotion said they would turn down £1million if it meant going without sex for a year or moving back in with their parents.
According to the results, a brave third of us would go to prison for three months in exchange for £1million; but we’re clearly a shy nation as only one in four would go to the work Christmas party naked in order to become a millionaire.
Women be warned, a fifth of men said they would dump their partner for £1million and the research also debunks the cliché of the female ‘Golddigger’ with men (30%) being more likely to date or marry for money than women (20%)!
Revealingly it appears that British men are more vain than they let on, as 30% wouldn’t shave their head and over a half (51%) said they wouldn’t put on 20kg in weight for £1million. However, 50% would still only eat cheese sandwiches for a year.
The Plenty survey reveals that while there are things we would not do for £1million, nearly 80% of survey participants admitted that they worry about money at Christmas and a quarter consider themselves poor and unable to cover their monthly outgoings.
When it comes to the celebrity bank balances that we envy, most women (35%) think that Holly Willoughby has the perfect level of wealth while most men (32%) aspire to have the wealth of Bill Gates.
Money psychologist Donna Dawson comments; "This survey reveals Brits to be proud, independent, morally sound and socially aware.
"Although most of us think that £1million is the ideal sum to win for solving our Christmas money worries, the majority of Brits would not damage their reputation, their social image, health or undertake anything ethically wrong to gain it.
"They are more likely to want to endure a degree of personal deprivation that doesn’t affect anyone else (such as going without sex, living with their parents, or shaving their heads).
"We may be worried about our finances at this time of year, but we are smart enough to know that jeopardising our mental and physical well-being for the sake of money is not a good trade-off."
