I know it’s only September but that’s a mere four months and 3 pay days away from Christmas Day- so it’s good to get a head start as soon as you can. Here are just a few things you can do this month to help makes things easier down the line.

Christmas on Female First

Review your Christmas decorations: Identify the gaps in your décor and the things you need to replace. If you can order them now- do so- or wait for the first decorations to appear in the shops and go as soon as you can. Then all you have to do is tick it off your list and put it in the loft or storage area with your other items until you decide to put them up.

Review your cards: If you bought your special cards in the January sales (I would strongly urge you do this next year if you don’t already) see if you have all the ones you need. If you have missed someone out- you can add it to your shopping list for as soon as the cards come out in the shops and can get it before the rush. Do you have enough boxed cards to send to everyone in your address book or do you need to think about buying another of these too?

Buy your stamps: Stamps are expensive, and that is one less thing you need to buy when the money is leaving your account for all the other things Christmas desires. If you buy them now, you can put them away with your cards and that is one more thing ticked off your list.

Start to ask what people would like: Enquire about what people want and need for Christmas and give them a budget you are working towards. If they can’t think of anything and ask them to get back to you with an idea once they have figured out what it is they want.

Start to buy gifts on your September pay day: If there is anything you can get now- start buying it and storing it away. Perhaps you buy the same non-perishable gifts for people every year, so you know that they definitely won’t be a waste of money.

Think about wrapping: If you didn’t manage to find any in the sales, work out how many rolls you will need and as with the cards, as soon as the wrapping hits the shelves- stock up. How many gift bags do you need? Sellotape? Ribbon?

Review your calendar: This month is the ideal time to start thinking about booking in those Christmassy outings. When do you want to go to the Christmas markets? Do you fancy going on the Santa Express? When do you want to go Christmas shopping? Have you booked in your Christmas meals with friends and family?
