When life feels busier than ever and many of us teeter on the verge of overwhelm at any moment, advice to just ‘be positive’ can feel like such a platitude, insensitive even. “What am I supposed to do with that?!” you would be forgiven for asking.
When I – and my clients - feel stretched and like the good vibes have dried up, turning instead to how we can ‘do’ positivity can unlock and stimulate the good energy that can be so very powerful when it comes to creating shifts that can lift and boost our moods and natural energy levels on the daily.
When it comes to some starting places to get the good vibes flowing again, I would recommend the following tips to get you going and arrive at your own combination that can help you feel more optimistic and energetic more often…
Give thanks for three things right now. Gratitude powers positivity so notice now what you DO have rather than what you don’t have and feel your energy lift.
Look for evidence that things are working out. Our brains play tricks on us and highlight shortcomings, gaps and errors. Instead, look for the signs and hints that life is working out for and harness that confidence.
Flood your feed with the things that light you up. Some accounts on social media can put us in a bad mood or trigger doubt. Follow more and different accounts that uplift your mood and power up your inspiration.
Work your ‘No’ muscles. Stop saying ‘yes’ to things when your heart is not really in it so you can release the time and feel energised to do what you actually want to!
Create your vision board. Collect the pictures, words and phrases that capture the life you want to live. Stay powered up by looking at it daily and making decisions that move you closer to it.
No pre-wee scrolling. Too many of us check our apps before we answer the call of nature - don’t check your phone until your entire morning routine is complete. Rise up to meet your day rather scroll passively into it!
Take a breath. Life is busy and we can be swept away by other people’s words, actions and pace. Instead of reacting, take a moment, breathe deeply and then let your best self-lead.
Do something today your future self will thank you for. Each day holds an opportunity for you to move forward with energy and momentum - even the smallest action can make a big difference to your big picture. Make your move today!
I recently came across the research by Purdey’s that revealed three quarters of Brits say positivity is infectious and that surrounding themselves with positive people is a strategy that over two thirds use to increase their energy levels. I don’t need to see the data to agree with that! If we each do our bit to bring our most positive self to our daily lives, think of the chain reaction we will be setting off.
Making your social media experience a happier, more positive one is a great start for this, we all spend a lot of time scrolling up and down each day – so social media can have a real effect on our everyday outlook. Purdey’s has created an online ‘Positivity Check Up’ tool to help people curate their social media experience into a more positive one. Visit www.purdeys.com/positivity to take a social media positivity check-up and find out how to make your experience more positive.
