When the temperature drops, it isn't just our face and hands that feel the effects. The skin on our lips tends to be much thinner than in other areas, which means it's more likely to be zapped of moisture as soon as the freezing cold weather hits. Cue flaky patches, chapping, soreness - you get the picture. So, we’re giving you our top 5 tips on how you can keep your lips in tip top condition this winter.
Don’t lick your lips. When your lips are dry, it's only natural to want to lick them but it can actually have the opposite effect. Saliva damages the protective barrier which leads to dryness and chapping.
Exfoliate! At least once or twice a week to boost circulation, remove dead skin cells and improve cell renewal - regular exfoliation will keep your lips feeling smooth and healthy.
Hydrate. Drink plenty of water to keep your body, skin and lips hydrated. When your lips are dehydrated they dry out and shrink, especially during the cold and windy winter months.
Change your lipstick! Matte lipsticks can be really drying so try to use less often when your lips are chapped.
Moisturise. At night, apply a balm before you go to bed. Choose one that contains hydrating ingredients such as shea butter, beeswax, vitamin E and jojoba or coconut oils.
