Pamela Anderson, Kate Moss, Dita Von Teese, Emma Watson and Jamie Winstone packed out Vivienne Westwood's show last night, as the designer sent topless models down the catwalk.
The veteran designer caused shock and delight with her new collection, and even had model-of-the-moment (bar Aggy of course) Daisy Lowe strutting her stuff on the catwalk.
This was without a doubt THE most anticipated show of the week, and with good reason- Westwood always delivers. Just look at the celeb following that this lady has, she even received a standing ovation from the leaders of the fashion pack- Mischa Barton and Jasmine Guinness.
But, to the clothes now and what fun Westwood had with her collection for SS09. There was fringing, there were sequins, there was bright colours and there was PVC; classic Westwood in other words.
Her black PVC asymmetric dress with a matching PVC baker boy hat was a show-stopper, as were here gorgeous print dresses, often accessorised with the usual Westwood flair.
And her take on the classic mac was also pretty inspired. Looking a little bit like a quality street wrapper, the bright gold trench was a big hit, despite the loud colour and the amount of bravery you would need to pull it off.
Westwood's use of fringe detail was also clean cut and well executed. We loved her take on the classic blouse with fringed sleeves, teamed with tailored navy shorts- definitely a trend to look out for next year. The high-street will undoubtedly take on the 'native Indian' trend with its coats, bags and skirts but fringed shirts are really fashion forward.
The biggest surprise of the night was undoubtedly the model who strutted down the catwalk, wearing a gold skirt and nothing on top. Yes, a topless model was on show and there was no hint of a page three newspaper in sight.
We like to think the designer was giving us a unique take on what men would wear in Ancient Greece...only for women. Westwood, we salute you!
