Choosing the right bra can make or break an outfit

Picking the perfect party frock can be quite a tricky business, but not as stressful as choosing the right underwear to wear underneath, because lets face it, the wrong bra or pants can spell disaster for an outfit.

Most of us don't tend to worry about such trivial things like underwear in the week, as just making it to work and keeping awake for 8 hours is usually the target goal.

However, wearing the wrong underwear can be uncomfortable, unstylish and what's more, make you look like you're carrying extra weight. Particularly if you have to wear a suit to work, as most people don't give much thought as to what's underneath.

Wearing the right underwear underneath your clothing will also allow you to experiment with different fashion, as some things do need a bit of help to carry them off.

So, here at FemaleFirst we thought we'd give you a guide to perfecting your underwear choices for each outfit, so you may never be caught out looking less than perfect again...

Multiway Bra

Every lady should own one of these, as they can perform many additional functions to that of an ordinary bra. Firstly, make sure you get measured in a shop to see exactly what size you are, as most of us across the country are wearing the wrong size, which can prove very uncomfortable.

The multiway bra allows you to add, take-away and remodel straps for each type of outfit that you want to wear. Even the tricky cross back is covered with this bra, and by remodelling the straps you can make it suitable for halterneck dresses too. Lastly by removing the straps or adding clear ones, you can wear strapless frocks with confidence, as everything will be supported.

Sports Bra

Tut tut to those ladies who go to the gym on a regular basis and don't own a sports bra. Apart from being very uncomfortable to have your boobs flying in your face while running on the treadmill, it's not giving you adequate support. Sports bras should feel comfortable and minimise movement when you're exercising, due to the wider straps and broader cup coverage.

Invisible Bra

These look like chicken fillets with a sticky part on the inside and is held together with a clear strap between the two cups. Although they feel pretty horrendous and look it too, this form of bra allows you to have support, while appearing to wear no bra at all. This is particularly good for plunging necklines, as well as backless dresses, when a bra strap on show just won't do.

Plunge Bra

Again a wardrobe essential because sometimes we all need some help in that department! A killer dress should be matched with a killer cleavage and an ordinary T-shirt bra will not suffice in giving you that. If you are particularly flat chested, choose a bra that has extra padding hidden within the bra; the ones that are removable are best so you can take them out when you wash it.

Magic Pants

These are probably the holy grail of underwear, and the person who invented them must have been a genius. How did we live without them? They now come in both longer and short versions, to include right down to your thighs and up to your boobs, and have recently expanded their line to create a thong range. Great for getting rid of your lumps and bumps, this seasons bodycon dress will look great with these magic pants underneath.

Body Suit

This is pretty much an extension of magic pants, but includes the bra into the mix, so you are pretty restricted once you put the whole thing on. That aside, it can help you to shave inches off all over your body and give you a clearer, more defined silhouette, making clothes fit and look better.
