Celebs have certainly been favouring them, we’ve seen them dominate runway shows and trickle down into the high street too, 2014 is all about the jumpsuit.

George at Asda has reported sales of jumpsuits are at an all-time high, as women across the nation are hailing the all-in-one as the latest wardrobe saviour.

With sales set to hit the quarter of a million mark this season, George is heralding 2014 ‘The Year of the Jumpsuit.’

Over 100,000 jumpsuits have been sold this July, as the nifty style is proving a must-have for women on the lookout for flattering fashion. With 50% of women believing that the jumpsuit “elongates the silhouette,” the longline style is a hit for the 82% of women who reveal they dress to slim their figures. Thanks to the all-in-one design, the jumpsuit is banishing the dreaded ‘muffin top’ which was voted the biggest wardrobe bugbear by two thirds of shoppers.

Cameron Diaz wears a jumpsuit on the red carpet

This week has seen over 3,000 searches for jumpsuits on George.com and the brand has extended its offering to keep up with demand. The more adventurous styles are proving the most popular, with statement one-shoulder, strapless and vibrant printed designs flying off the shelves as famous fans such as Cheryl Cole, Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz inspire shoppers. Over 60% of shoppers surveyed agreed that they are influenced by celebrity wardrobes and will purchase a new item of clothing if they’ve seen their favourite celebrity wearing something similar. Unlike their celebrity inspirations, shoppers are snapping up George jumpsuits for a fraction of the designer price-tag. With styles at George starting at just £12 compared to over £3,000 for a designer number, it’s no surprise the collection is proving a hit.

A spokesperson for George commented:

“The jumpsuit revival is definitely in full swing – this is a trend that’s taking George by storm! The jumpsuit is a timeless style that can be dressed up or down, suits every shape and appeals to women of all ages, which is why it’s proving so popular. The record sales across our collection show that the catwalk and celebrity favourite is becoming a wardrobe staple for women everywhere.”
