Tartan isn't only for kilt wearing bagpipes players as this winter sees plenty of plaid making it's way down from the highlands and onto the high streets.
Along with chunky lumberjack checks, tartan is set add something bright to the darkness of some of the other winter trends.
Henry Holland gave us an overload of purple tartan in his autmn/winter 08-09 collection- even sending Agyness Deyn down the catwalk in a tartan wedding dress complete with antlers.

Meanwhile D&G also showed off their plaid with a traditional red tartan in the form dresses and frill embellished coats.
Checks have been hanging around for a while but this winter we see a shift from girly shirt dresses in pinks and pastels and a move towards manish 'my boyfriend cuts down trees for a living' style shirts.

Luella has some fab boyfriend style single check shirts while Matthew Williamson combines different coloured check materials in one dress for a bold look.
