The sun is shining, the birds are singing and it's almost spring outside, aside from the wet weather, scary gusts of wind and odd bouts of snow that is.

Despite the crazy spring weather, we're now officially getting ready to embrace the latest fashion trends on the high-street, after months of covering the catwalk looks for SS09.

We've shown you the key trends for the months ahead, but what about those little finishing touches, which can make or break a successful outfit?

We like to call them 'mini-trends' because they really can make a difference to your look, and with that in mind FemaleFirst have compiled a list of the best ones to hit the high-street this summer...

Ankle Socks: Prepare to go back to primary school with this mini-trend as white ankle socks teamed with either pumps or heels are big news for the summer months.

Alexa Chung and Chloe Sevigny have already been spotted working this look, and if both our fave style icons are sampling the trend, then you know it's a winner. Our top tip is to accessorise your socks with bows, jewels and sequins, if plain white is a bit too much of a safe option for you.

Mary Jane Shoes: Patent baby blue and pink are the choices for summer, to combat the array of neon fashion looks we're going to have to put up with, and it will be a nice contrast too. We recommend giving the above trend a go with these shoes, as you can work the sorbet cutie look, which Britney has been seen sporting in her less than innocent new video, If U Seek Amy.

Scarves: Scarves were everywhere on the SS09 catwalks and this will definitely translate to the high-street this season. Wear your scarf in your hair, around your waist and around your neck too as a finishing touch to your look. Topshop Unique worked the hair scarf to perfection in their catwalk show, showing how the 80s can still be fashionable.

Badges/Brooches: The ultimate accessory for summer, which will liven up any outfit. Brooches have come back in fashion in a big way over the past few years, while badges are essential to creating the punk rock look, and were their most popular in the early nineties amongst teens. Brooches are great for completing a very ladylike look, whereas badges give off a very rebellious vibe and look best when piled together.

Shirt Jewellery: This is a bit of an odd one, granted, but this mini-trend is really set to make an impact for the summer months. Think statement necklaces and take it to the next level, by either buying a shirt with something attached to the collar, or simply stitch something on yourself.

Bows, ribbons and Aztec jewels will all look amazing for this trend, and since Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana and 3.1 Phillip Lim have already sampled it in their collections, you know it's a trend to latch onto.
