Ashley Tisdale Works The Silver Party Dress

Ashley Tisdale, Christina Aguilera, Kate Winslet and Nicola Roberts have all been playing it cool in some sparkly silver frocks this month.

Forget gold being the hot colour of the party season, clearly this year it's all about playing it cool in some sexy silver style. Glam it up to the max this Christmas with sparkly dresses, bling jewellery and metallic eyes, just like all the celebs have been spotted doing.

Well, if it's good enough for all the fashion conscious celebs out there then it's certainly good enough for us. There are many different ways that you can work silver into your party look, although the easiest is a show-stopping frock.

The high-street is full of amazing designs and styles to suit and flatter every figure. From maxi, mini to mid-length you'll find something to rock at this year's Christmas party, but if you don't fancy going all out then why not invest in some funky accessories instead?

Silver party shoes are always popular at the time of year, as they look slick and stylish teamed with a simple black dress, or when worn with a sequined grey number too. The usual rule of 'less being more' tends to go out of the window this time of year, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Colour coordinating will work for some outfits, but not for others. For example Nicole Ritchie's stunning silver silk gown was accessorised with a bright blue and green Missoni clutch bag, while Leona Lewis accessorised her silver sparkly number with a matching clutch bag.

If you don't want to wear a silver dress, then why not get a pair of silver tights or leggings and team with a simple black tunic. The again, why not break some party rules wear a silver dress teamed with some PVC or leather leggings, to chanel to soft goth look this Christmas.

Betty Jackson's SS09 show at London Fashion Week was awash with neutral tones of silver and grey, mixed with sheer fabrics, forecasting a big trend for 'soft romance' next spring. It's expected that it will be a toned down version of the 'dark romance' look we've seen everywhere this winter.

If you're smart and plan ahead, bag yourself a silver sequined shift for the party season, as sequins too are set to be all the rage next year. With the credit crunch really starting to bite, then thinking ahead to next spring will leave you looking stylish and chic, without having to raid the piggy bank.
