Aruna Seth creates beautiful embellished shoes
Tell us a little but about your shoe collection?
Aruna Seth has varied shoes in the collection as we like to cater to a vast age range and all occasions. We have loads of fancy Swarovski encrusted shoes for ladies who love occasion wear. Our cruise range of sandals are great for the beach. Our bridal range provides brides with shoes to be remembered for wedding days. There are classic leather shoes for office wear. We even have the ski-slopes covered with our range of furry boots for the snow!
Where do you get your inspiration from for the designs?
Creativity to me is taking in inspiration from my surroundings and sitting down and drawing out ideas in my note-pad. My designs are based around what I love from shoes, the places I frequent and my travels. I love attending events and socialising . Before I started the brand Aruna Seth I could never find the perfect shoes for day to evening occasions. I wanted to create shoes for the red carpet with that extra ‘wow’ factor. The signature cerise wedge with Swarovski crystals and bow is a best-seller, girls will literally grab my feet as I walk past wearing them to ask me where to purchase them!
I wanted to create shoes leaving an impression and create designs girls quickly build up a strong emotional attachment to. An example of a ‘location’ inspired shoe is the Antonia following a brief visit to Porto Fino. The Antonia design was screaming to be created to complete a shoe lovers vacation, the empress of all summer sandals, Swarovski crystal trim, gold nappa leather and crystal butterfly, the perfect day-to evening shoes to match the ideal gold Kaftan.
Out of all the shoes you've created, is there a favourite of yours?
I love all of my Aruna Seth shoes so it’s hard to decide on a favourite.
The best-selling design has been our Aruna Seth butterfly shoe. Ladies have really taken to the butterfly design so much that we’ve created the shoes in a variety of different colours from ivory, black patent, Chantilly lace.
The design comes in loads of fabrics from leather, patent and satin! The butterfly shoes are great for brides because it’s lovely to see a bit of sparkle when a bride lifts up her dress.
Do any of the designs have sentimental value?
I’d say the cerise wedges have sentimental value to me as they were the first shoes we designed. We spent ages on the special detail of these shoes and picking the grosgrain ribbon to compliment the back of the wedges. If you look inside the bow it is aligned with Swarovski crystals.
A number of celebrities and famous faces have worn your designs, is there anyone you would still like to see in your shoes?
I’d love to see Kate Middleton wearing our shoes as she is a style icon and gains so much interest in what she wears! Kate Middleton is doing a tremendous job of looking superbly classic and hasn’t put a fashion-foot wrong. She has a highly pressurized position of looking utterly fabulous at all times. I’d love to offer her some of our Aruna Seth flat ballerina’s to run after the new Royal baby which will arrive in July.
Which other shoe designers do you admire?
Manolo Blahnik as I love his inspiring designs and images that he draws with each design! His shoes are colourful, great shapes and I love his iconic design which featured on Sex and The City. I love the magic he has created behind the brand.
What's your favourite style of shoe?
I am a heels lady as I love looking glamorous. Shoes have the ability to liven up and change an outfit in an instant! I’m often not seen without wearing 6-inch heels…but I understand that a lot of ladies may not be comfortable in heels all day so I am partial to wear a flat shoe to the airport and walking around London etc
How about your personal style, how would you describe it?
I love sparkly Swarovski, I hoped to liven up traditional shoes with a bit of glamour. We like to differentiate ourselves from other designers as our USP is the special padding in our shoes. It is plush leather padding which supports the foot for all-day wear. We feel as though our shoes are glamorous yet comfortable for all-day wear, cashmere like comfort for feet.
Goldie Hawn wore Aruna Seth’s Cinderella shoes covered with 3,000 Swarovski crystals peeping from her beautiful black dress to a Nine Film Premiere in New York in December 2009. Goldie Hawn was super impressed with the comfort factor and said "The minute I put them on I did not want to take them off.
They were so comfortable... and for evening shoes that's saying a lot.
Which trends are looking forward to trying in the Spring/Summer?
There are loads of pastel colours out so I can’t wait to wear these all summer. I love soft pinks and blue tones so can’t wait to buy some cute summer dresses in these colours.
What's coming next for your collection?
We’re looking to be more fashion focused this year and our new designs reflect this. We’ve moved away from being predominately bridal to more fashion. We have some great new styles out like our new pointy toe classic heel in black patent and Venus shoe in a variety of colours.
