Nicole Richie loves her maxi dresses...is she stuck in a style rut?

We're all guilty of sticking to what we know best in life, and this has never been truer than when it comes to our clothes. If we have an outfit that we find comfortable, then we will no doubt wear it to death until it falls apart and you'll be left to mourn the remnants of a perfect outfit.

Celebrities are guilty of it too, with Katie Holmes donning the same pair of jeans every day when she was rehearsing on Broadway and Jennifer Aniston has been stuck with the same hair cut for years now, with very little change or variation to her long hair.

Nicole Richie is also a fan of working a trend to the max, if it suits her- just look at her love of maxi dresses over the past few months!

Kate Moss and her skinny jeans are another example of when lust turns to love and you just can't get enough. They may look great Kate, but you're meant to be a pioneer of style, so get out of this style rut pronto and give us some fashion inspiration.

If you think you're in a style rut, ask yourself a simple question; what is your failsafe outfit choice for any occasion? If you have just the one, then you know that you're wearing it too much. We ladies should have different styles for different situations in life, and just wearing one thing will mean you've become predicable, boring and dull.

However, fear not! this season is a great time to make a fashion change in your life and update you're wardrobe, with some fabulous new trends on offer. Firstly, ditch the skinny jeans, as this season is all about leggings making a comeback, but not just any leggings- wet look is the only way to go this winter.

If leather trousers are a bit too daunting, instead opt for some leggings with a 'shiny' effect and team with a chunky knit, as these sort of leggings are best worn with something which covers your bum!

Coloured tights are also a great way to brighten up your wardrobe and in a cost effective way too. Black tights are the staple of every girl's wardrobe, but they can also be something of a failsafe option that over time can become very boring. The trick to wearing coloured tights is to keep the rest of your outfit simple, so pair a black dress with bubblegum pink tights and prepare to wow!

Next, embrace some lace in your life by splashing out on a dress, shrug or some tights. Whatever you choose, lace is a huge trend this season and will be sticking around for next year too.

Lastly, why not ditch your safe winter coat, which you dig out each year and update your look with a new style. We compiled a list of all the key coat trends last month, to view them and to decide which one is the right style for you, click here .
