Ossie Clark SS09

Ossie Clark SS09

After the frosty reception the AW08 collection received under new Creative Director, Avsh Alom Gur, the newly revamped Ossie Clark returned to form with this SS09 collection.

Clark kept the prints to a minimal in this collection, and where they were used, they worked a lot better than the previous season's collection. Most notably the gorgeous electric blue shift, with a stunning floral print was well received among the fashion pack.

Other hits for Clark was his stunning silk jumpsuits, tied in at the waist with keyhole necklines sprouting ruffles at the throat and his unique take on the maxi dress, using heavy embellishment and crafting it in the shape of a kaftan.

The colour palette for the show was surprisingly minimal. As we saw with many New York designers, nude and blacks were used almost as a base and this was definitely the case here.

Clark contrasted this base with bold colours, such as electric blue, tangerine, buttery yellow and a lush green grass palette.

Gur also triumphed on his modern reworking of the classic Clark pieces.

Asymmetric minis were layered and thrown together with long sweaters that contrasted heavily, and his collection of semi-sheer dresses that appeared on the catwalk had an almost ethereal feel about them, which can only be a good thing this time of year.

Considering spring is so far away, this collection should go some way to cheering us up.
