Maxi dresses have proved once again a spring/summer style staple, with sales rocketing for George at Asda.
Over £3m worth of maxi dresses have been sold already this season, as style savvy Brits opt for the chic alternative over thigh-skimming minis. Proving to be a wardrobe staple amongst celebrities and shoppers alike, the longer hemline is here to stay.
The maxi trend emerges as 68% of women have revealed they feel more confident in a longer length dress. With 34% of women over 50 naming the knee as one of their key problem areas. The recent poll found that 62% of women feel slimmer in a longer style, with ‘hiding cellulite/problem areas’ and ‘elongating the silhouette’ key plus points for over 50% of consumers.
With celebrities such as Rita Ora opting for longer hemlines at Coachella, and the likes of Khloe Kardashian and TOWIE star Sam Faiers recently choosing glamorous floor-sweeping styles in bold colours and prints, shoppers are emulating the A-List with the statement maxi dress trend.
Head of Design for George, Helen Low commented:“This season we’ve seen our shoppers shun shorter styles in favour of more feminine, modest cuts, inspired by the latest celebrity and catwalk trends. Demand is huge for maxi dresses, which is why George has launched an incredible range of over 50 different designs. Shoppers can choose from a huge array of styles for any occasion - the capsule collection of ‘£10 & Under’ maxi dress designs is sure to be a huge hit.”
If you’ve yet to update your summer wardrobe with maxi dress we think it’s time you do, we’ve picked some stylish options from George and beyond to get you in on the trend.
