Matthew Williamson SS09

Matthew Williamson SS09

It was the hot ticket yesterday and British designer, Matthew Williamson did not disappoint with his stunning collection, highlighting the new trends for SS09.

His acid brights collection opened the show, featuring coloured suit pieces, flirty skirts and loud cropped jackets. His striking prints clashed with a loud colour scheme really worked and presented us with very desirable and wearable pieces.

The puff ball skirt made a welcome return to the fashion scene, as did the use of bows throughout certain pieces in his collection, most notably in his skirts and jackets.

Asymmetric designs were also popular and the one shoulder dress was also featured, so don't be throwing away last season's purchase just yet, chances are it will be bang on trend again, come early spring.

Florals, as seen on many shows this week featured heavily, as did tye dye and cropped trousers, also seen on the Diane Von Furstenberg runway just a few days ago.

Part of his collection featured 'Russian doll' inspired pieces, particularly in his jackets and trousers, again another nod that military may carry through to SS09, but maybe in a less obvious way.

Showing his accomplished skills as a designer, Williamson also experimented with corsetry in a few of his key pieces, producing some stunning dresses for his new collection.

Deep jewel colours were also a big hit, hinting that AW08 pieces will carry through to the summer, as will statement necklines, be it embellishment on the garment, or statement necklaces.

Williamson also showed rubber and leather on the runway, particularly in his signature micro-minis and skinny trousers. The designer also gave a nod to the more delicate romance trend being forecasted for summer success. Instead of disregarding dark romance completely, he showed a black leather skirt together with a softer, more feminine chiffon embellished top.

With fashion as great as this in New York, we can't wait to see what the designer will do at London Fashion Week...something tells us he will go down a storm!
