We were extremely thankful to be given full access to the Lucas Nascimento SS15 show at London Fashion Week, we got to see the collection in all its beautiful glory as it hit the catwalk, got a chat with the designer after the show and were given the tips for the slicked back hairstyle created by ghd – it was access all areas and we’re sharing it with you too.
Brazil born designer Lucas Nascimento was sponsored by Cotton USA for his Spring/Summer collection and the designer couldn’t be more happy with the partnership. He said:
“I’m extremely happy especially with the collaboration. Cotton is extremely versatile and durable so it’s a great material to use. It was really great to start working with them, and I’m super pleased.”
The COTTON USA sponsorship programme is now renowned within the fashion industry for offering a valuable platform for budding designers to elevate their work. Previous recipients of the coveted COTTON USA sponsorship include Richard Nicholl, Meadham Kirchhoff, PPQ, Preen, Louise Gray and palmer//harding.
Lucas Nascimento has been chosen to receive sponsorship for the first time, largely due to his brand values which mirror those of COTTON USA – he has a track record of creating, luxurious, quality pieces which are long lasting and are not restricted by a specific trend or season. Also, his passion for working with natural textiles and fibres such as U.S. cotton made him an ideal candidate for the sponsorship.
Nascimento explained: “I try to create pieces for women who appreciate the detail in a garment and buy a piece for life; not for a moment in trend or time.”
“This is why the partnership with COTTON USA is an ideal fit – U.S. cotton is not only a quality, long lasting fibre, it’s also extremely versatile allowing for more creativity. It’s a great fibre to work with.”
For SS15, Lucas Nascimento has created an ultra-cool collection in which we see bold and unexpected layering of fabrics, including soft leather and transparent silk. Heavy shapes cut away effortlessly to give the woman motion and an active silhouette.
Nascimento’s SS15 look sees half-cut dresses and drapes appear as single garments, whilst slashed, ultra-light outerwear creates three-dimensional collages of different shapes and textures.
The lightness and fluidity of silk blends are fused with sports elements in luxurious finished, creating a true work of craftsmanship noticeably marking the pace, with evidence from skilful layering and individual silhouettes.
The inspiration of his latest collection is a woman’s nonchalant refinement told through long-term friend and visual artist Nina Fowler’s intricate and powerful pencil and chalk drawings. The knitted jacquards are a precise recreation of the artists’ intricate and powerful pencil and chalk drawings.
Of the work together, Lucas said:
“It was amazing, Nina does pencil drawings and charcoals that look like photographs and I translated that into knitted jacquards which were really great. The interesting thing was the material we used; we used a high twisted cotton fibre mixed with silk which makes the whole thing extremely light and fluid, which follows with the collection as well. I think it was very exciting.”
From cocoon jackets to wraparound skirts, all in a colour palette of bright white, yellow, orange and hints of black, through to careful yarn consideration and research, Lucas Nascimento has created something distinctive within knitwear. His vibrant colour combinations are recurrent elements of his designs, where the rawness of nature meets the sleekness of modern architectural constructions.
To complement the different touches and styles in Nascimento’s collection, Kenna for ghd has fused textures of a slick wet-look with beautiful, soft waves. The front of the hair comes back off the face in a smooth and shiny sweep that then cascades down the back in a loose, dry wave. It is adapted to each model to match face shape and act as a continuation of cheekbones and brows, creating one continuous movement.
GET THE LOOK:
Start by applying ghd style straight and smooth spray to dry hair to create a healthy, high-sheen gloss
Next, working in sections, apply ghd style total volume foam to all roots, starting at base of head and working upwards
Use a ghd tail comb to guide the hair flat to the head, from the hair line to the base
To personalise the look, use a ghd detangling comb and a ghd oval dressing brush to sculpt the hair around the face as a continuation of the brow line, scooping around the ears and edging hair towards the back of the head
To fix this wet look in place, use the ghd aura hairdryer to harden the foam, then spray with ghd style final fix hairspray
Next, working in sections, wrap the hair flat around the ghd curve classic curl tong to create long, narrow, curls
TOP TIP: to allow the movement to remain in the mid-length section of the hair, do not wrap the end 2-3 inches of the hair around the ghd curve classic curl tong, letting the ends drop off straight
To finish the look, soften out the waves with the ghd detangling comb
Lucas explained that his plan next is to sleep and relax a little bit, and then move his brand forward gradually.
“I think that things happen naturally and I think we’re moving forward in a cool way so I’m very happy with that.”
We’re extremely happy too.
