Clean and fresh was the first impression of the Eugene Lin Spring Summer 14 collection thanks to a sea of white pieces, but then he moved into a burnt orange and more sombre blacks with grey.
Eugene Lin stepped away from the loud digital prints and military embellishments of A/W13 in favour for clean lines and immaculately executed pattern cutting which is tempered by a clean and precise deluxe aesthetic.
For the SS14 show, the collection returns to the label’s signature in greater strength.
The collection is panoply of soft tailoring, feathers and feminine hues structured by a high-waisted and mid-length silhouette.
Inspiration for the collection came from the fabled Valkyries of Norse mythology. These female spirits of battle become swans with the aid of feathered cloaks.
Jackets and coats feature draped necklines, while the cross detail – inspired by the folding of Valkyrie wings on the body – is worked through sculpted dresses and separates. Trousers and pencil skirts are cut slim, with both fixed and loose pleats for texture and movement.
A luxe touch includes the gold buckles to emphasise the cross detail, whereas the fastenings are concealed for a super sleek look.
Feather prints in contrasting tones add a sophisticated complexity to the feminine shapes via hand-crafted three-dimensional textured screen-prints, alongside minimal digital printed techniques.
Eugene Lin is also expanding on his brand with an accessories range, the SS14 collection marked the debut of footwear and bags.
