How do you store your handbags?

How do you store your handbags? Are they lovingly tucked away waiting to be worn or are they stuffed under the bed gathering dust?

With more than half of women in the UK claiming to own more than six handbags, and 56% of women admitting to carelessly stuffing their collections under beds, at the bottom of wardrobes and at the back of cupboards, it’s no wonder one of the most frequent requests when buying a fitted bedroom is ‘please can you build handbag storage into my wardrobe’.

Bedroom retailer Betta Living has teamed up with storage guru The Clutter Fairy to offer advice on how to achieve havens for handbags.

Handbag Hell’ - most women store handbags in the bottom of wardrobes, under beds and at the back of cupboards.

As a result of sloppy storage, 64% of the women surveyed reported their handbag collection was getting damaged due to insufficient wardrobe storage.

Thanks to celebrities and their pricey and highly sort-after handbag collections, it seems that British women go weak at the knees for lavish handbags too – yet when placed in their possession they have no clue how to store or look after them.

So with the help of The Clutter Fairy and Betta Living’s bedroom designer Nicole Vitta-Mcleod we have the top tips for storing your handbags.

The Clutter Fairy’s Top Handbag Storage Tips

Put handbags at eye-level with units such as the Heel Deal so you have visibility of what you own – this helps you to avoid the 80/20 rule, where most women only use 20% of their bags 80% of the time.

Handbags need to be contained so they don’t fall over – pop them in pigeon holes to allow them to retain their shape.

Filling your bags with bubble wrap (or plastic bags if you don’t have bubble wrap) is also great for shape retention.

Use dust bags – daylight and dust aren’t kind to luxury leather so keep them protected.

Don’t let your bags be an afterthought. Ensure they are given their own shelving space where they will not get damaged by other items.
