Henry Holland poses with the model wearing his design

Henry Holland tested his design skills with the creation of a chocolate dress, inspired by the crack of chocolate when you first bite into it.

The designer was asked to create the dress to celebrate 25 years of Magnum ice cream.

It was a challenge which the designer; well-known for his quirky designs and bright colours; took in his stride as he worked with brown for the first time ever to create a sparkling 60s-inspired shift dress with a structured, pointed collar, alluding to other pieces shown in the House of Holland AW14 show.

Taking inspiration from the first bite of a Magnum, Henry’s design uses sequins of different size; painstakingly hand stitched by his team, to dramatically interpret the iconic crack of the chocolate, revealing a rich ice cream beneath.

As well as the dress, an exact replica created entirely from chocolate was on display last night at the celebration.

The chocolate dress took a team of three chocolatiers over 100 hours to handcraft using the equivalent of 833 Magnum Classics’ chocolate.

Worth over £5,000 each, 25 copies of the exclusive Henry Holland Magnum 25 dress have been made, to mark each year of the ice cream. One lucky birthday guest got the opportunity to win one of the copies last night while fashion lovers will get the chance to win the money-can’t-buy gift in future competitions throughout the summer.
