Pixie Lott and Fearne Cotton have both been spotted wearing girly flowers in their hair over the festival season and now the trend is expected to be huge through to autumn.
Pixie opted for big bold white flowers accross her forehead at V festival while Fearne added a floral touch to an evening look with some red flowers on the top of her hair.
Fearne's hair stylist Mark Hill gave us his top tips for hair floristry.....
"The key to wearing flowers in the hair is to choose a flower that is fairly simple, such as earthy flowers like daisies. Stay away from roses as these can look bridal. Big hair or hair with volume can carry off a bigger flower but if you have fine hair, don’t opt for a big accessory, something small and simpler is better.
If you’re going to wear your hair down, wear the flower on the side. Attach it to the hair near the ear with a couple of colour-matched grips to keep it in place for a great hippy, festival chic / ‘1970’s summer of love’ look. If you’re going to wear your hair up, in a shabby chignon for instance, apply it to the back of the chignon and to the side.
The easiest way to do this, is by creating a backcombed base. Take a small section of hair, and back comb the hair. With 2 small kirby grips (matched to the hair colour), cross them over each other and push through the backcombed hair.
To create the looks of Fearne and Pixie, apply Mark Hill’s new Style Secrets Sexy Waves & Curls Re-Energizing Cream (£5.99) to wet hair to encourage natural hair movement. Take large sections of the hair and curl with a ceramic waver. Apply a dry shampoo to the middle and ends of the hair as this gives hair that great matte, textured, festival chic look."
