Sale shopping can be a nightmare

Sale shopping can be a nightmare

Prepare to sharpen those elbows girls, because it's that time of year again. Yes, the New Year sales are upon us and with our comprehensive guide, you won't be tempted to buy just any old rubbish this year.

We're all guilty of buying things we don't really need, just because it has a sale tag on it and this is really bad, because not only are we pouring money down the drain, but we're clogging up our wardrobe with useless rubbish too.

The most common trap that we fall in to is buying things, even though they are too small for us. It's got a lot to do with the New Year's syndrome, where we all vow to lose weight, tone up and join a gym...only we never do.

Then there are those purchases which are cheap and you think will be a good idea, only for you to get it home, try it on and realise (too late) that it's actually horrendous and doesn't suit you.

Finally, something which most of us experience every year is 'Shopper's Rage' in other words, we all fight like crazy people to get that must-have piece and end up getting angry, hot and sweaty for no reason.

Well this year, FemaleFirst are here to give you a plan of action, so you know what to buy and don't waste your time fighting it out in the shops...

Tailored Pieces

A smart jacket or a pair of trousers will always be in fashion and are great style staples for your wardrobe. Pick up on the wide legs styles and three quarter lengths as this will carry you through to the spring and summer with ease.

Jeans

They never go out of fashion and can be worn with anything. Next year will all be about high-waisted styles, so if you spot a pair of them, grab them quick. Also stock up on standard bootcut, and despite them not being in fashion next season, no doubt skinnies will make a reappearance at some point, so if they're cheap, pick up a pair.

Sunglasses

They are cheap this time of year, and getting them now will mean you avoid the crush come summer time. Pick up on some ray ban inspired styles if you can, as they are set to be big news once again next year.

White Shirts

A great closet staple, white shirts are smart and stylish, so picking up a fair few of these will stand you in good stead for next year. As we've forecasted, sheer will be a huge trend next year, so try and bag yourself a sheer shirt or blouse, in either standard white or nude.

Tank Tops/ Vests

Because you can never have enough of these, we suggest getting them in white, grey, yellow, blue and red. Those are the main colours for next year and will go with pretty much anything.

Anything Asymmetric

Asymmetric designs have been huge this year and this trend is set to continue next year. Pick up a top, dress or skirt that is asymmetric and work the trend to the max. The one that is most popular at present in the one-shoulder dress, so if you see them in the sales, pick one up quick as they won't be around for long.
