The goth look is set to be huge this winter but forget scary white faces, biting heads off bats and howling at the moon- next season it's all about the gentle goth.
The catwalks were full of black in February with Richard Nicoll, MeadhamKirchhof and Nicole Fahri all bringing us gothic lace, full skirts and chunky boots.
Lace dress, Debut @Debenhams, £90
Although very black-based the goth look is actually a great continuation of summer's romantic feel. Vintage lace and bead detailing give the dark look a feminine touch.
Beaded sequin dress, Wallis, £70
Mixing sheer fabrics with more heavy fabrics helps to break up the solid blackness and make the look less harsh.
Frill shirt, Dorothy Perkins, £22
The key item for the winter wardrobe has to be a full black skirt. It can be teamed with a lace blouse or just a simple black vest, a cropped leather jacket and some great vintage looking accessories for an instant goth-inspired look.
Black full skirt, Dorothy Perkins, £28
The goth look is all about the fine detail- fabrics and prints aren't meant to stand out from accross the room. Intricate lace embellishment and beading are details that a person needs to get up close to notice.
Lace pencil skirt, Principles, £59
This doesn't mean you can't be bold with your clothes though. This lace skirt is fab and looks great if worn with a simple back high neck top and some black beaded necklaces.
Star by Julien Macdonald dress, Debenhams, £100
Debenhams and Dorothy Perkins are also ahead of the game with this trend. Star by Jullian Macdonald and Debenhams own Debut line have some great gothic looks in their autumn/winter 2008-9 preview collections while Dotty P's will be full of great goth-inspired wardrobe staples come September.
