What will you be wearing for the office party?

The office party is creeping upon us, so it's time to start thinking about the all important outfit, what will you wear?

Well, it seems we're going to be a nation of recyclers this year when it comes to the works' do, with just under a third of women admitting they’ll be re-wearing an old outfit.

That’s the finding of a poll by money saving site NetVoucherCodes.co.uk who asked women how much they will shell out on their party outfit.

A money conscious 31% confessed they’d be putting on an old outfit and dressing it up with new accessories.

One respondent said: “I bought a gorgeous little black dress a couple of years ago and have worn it ever since for work dos like the Christmas party. Every year I dress it up with new shoes and a new bag. It’s not about being tight, it’s about making the most of what you have in the wardrobe and if you have something that makes you look and feel great, then why not?”

Only seven per cent said they’d be willing to spend over £100, with the majority, 44% saying between £51 and £100 was an acceptable amount to part with.

Another respondent said: “I always treat myself to a new outfit at Christmas – I go the whole hog with shoes, bag, jewellery and underwear. It’s the one time of the year I want to look and feel amazing. I also know I’ll wear the outfit a few times over Christmas and New Year so it’s worth every penny.”

Those questioned were less likely to wear previously seen shoes, just 13% would recycle a pair, instead preferring to treat their feet to something new.

Spending between £26 and £50 was how much 41% of the women expected to splash out on party shoes, with 29% only wanting to part with anything up to £25 for a one off wear.

Over a third, 37%, would give an old evening bag another outing, with 31% saying they’d be willing to spend anything up to £15. A further 19% would splash out between £16 and £30. Out of those questioned, 74% said they would be buying new underwear to help create the perfect silhouette for their dress.

A quarter, 25%, claimed they’d wear jewellery they already own, with 27% happy to spend up to £15 and 32% spending between £16 and £30.

A third respondent added: “I like to buy new for the office party – I’d hate for someone to see me in an outfit I’ve worn before – but I do it on a budget. I often buy a cheapish dress and borrow some great jewellery and shoes from mates. I call it bling on a budget.”

A spokesperson for NetVoucherCodes.co.uk said; “We all love to treat ourselves to a new outfit for the Christmas party season, but it is a very expensive time of year. Re-wearing a fabulous outfit you already own is the obvious thing to do and dressing it up with a few carefully chosen accessories means it will look as good as new.”
