The Hellen Van Rees Spring Summer 14 collection was definitely a statement, soft chiffons and woven cotton were contrasted against silicone rubber.
FemaleFirst caught up with the designer during the presentation.
Here’s what Hellen had to say.
Where did your inspiration for the collection come from?
The collection is inspired by classic Chanel tweed and the twenties, which is something that runs through my entire work. With this collection in particular I was inspired by the shapes of the twenties and the evening wear. But then I used a futuristic contrast as well.
I weaved some parts by hand and then I have silicone rubber to contrast against it.
How has this collection moved on from your previous?
My previous collection was a lot darker, and obviously for spring I wanted this to be a lot brighter and more colourful.
How are the shoes made for the collection?
It’s a standard shoe that’s covered with the same material of the clothing and moulded upon the shape of the shoe.
All of the garments are woven by hand and then moulded into the shape of the garment and pieced together.
