Keep shopping costs down this Christmas

Keep shopping costs down this Christmas

The words 'credit-crunch' and 'recession' does tend to put a dampener on your spending spirit this Christmas, but that's no excuse to not be festivably fashionable this season, as we show you some top buys for under a tenner.

With high-street stores slashing their prices to entice customers through the doors, you're in a better position than you may realise. Savvy shoppers will know how to suss out the bargains that will see you through the winter, and into early spring too.

The things to look out for now amidst the mass of discounted products, are things you will actually use or give to someone as a Christmas gift. For example a clutch bag is always worth looking out for in the party season, as they never go out of fashion, you'll always use it for nights out and it will add the finishing touch to any outfit.

Check out Dorothy Perkins' party line, where they have a selection of clutch bags for around £8 to £10. We particularly love their tomato red fold over clutch for £10 exactly, which will be a hot edition to any outfit this season. Well, it is the colour of the moment, isn't it!?

It gets awfully chilly around this time of year too, so investing in a new scarf is more than worth looking at. Boohoo have combined trendy leopard print with a winter warmer for a mere £8.

If scarves aren't your thing, then why not get a decent pair of gloves that will keep your hands warm, and stylish at the same time. Miss Selfridge have a range of mittens and gloves for £8, in a wide variety of styles.

Lingerie is another thing which people assume will cost the earth, but that's only if you've got and expensive taste for designer brands. The high-street have slashed prices on undies too, so check out Peacock's bedtime range, that's both sexy and sweet, with prices starting from as little as £5. Other stores too have seasonal discounts on some big names, so they are always worth checking out this time of year, to see if you can bag a bargain.

Another key tip is to look to next Spring and the trends we will be seeing then. Hair embellishments are set to be huge, so get in on the act early and look for some flowers, beads and bows that may be hitting the shop floor now. Topshop have a great range of bow and beaded headbands for between £4 and £8, while Oasis have some fab beaded designs for £10 that are more than worth a look.

Chilly weather for the next few months means that you will need to stock up on lots of high-quality tights too. M&S sell packs of three tights for £3, or if you fancy some funky fashion tights, then Topshop and Dorothy Perkins both sell individual packs of colourful tights for between £6 and £8.

Happy Shopping!
