A woman’s wardrobe evolves through the years, plenty of clothes are welcomed with open arms and plenty are discarded in a rush to make room for other pieces.
With many women being named, stereotypically perhaps, as shopping fanatics, the UK’s leading independent celebrity fashion website wanted to have a closer look into the wardrobes of females up and down the UK to find out if this reputation was indeed justified.
MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk found out how many items women buy on average per year. From this they’ve worked out the average life span of your wardrobe.
It found that in a lifetime we own:
620 dresses
310 skirts
372 cardigans or jumpers
558 trouser or jeans
248 coats or jackets
434 pair of shoes
Bobbie Malpass, editor of MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk, commented on the findings:
“When looking at the bigger picture, you certainly would not imagine owning this many clothing items in your lifetime. It doesn’t seem like a lot at the time, when you buy the odd dress or jacket, but when it’s all put together you do realise the amount you accumulate! It would be quite interesting to find out how many different clothing items men buy in their lifetime and compare it to women.”
The most surprising thing may be that 27 per cent described their shopping choices as impulse buying. It’s important that we should be buying clothes that we can wear for years to come. Our wardrobe is an investment and we should consider the pieces we’re going to be putting in it.
