As we near the end of our eco adventure this month, we thought we'd take a closer look at how going eco can help you beat the credit crunch.
We've had a look at what gadgets and gismos are on the market to help you save some money. At the top of our list is anything to do with saving water and electricity, seeing as prices are continuing to sky rocket at the moment.
Here are some of our fave eco gadgets...
Hippo The Toilet Water Saver, £1.99, Ethical Superstore
For under £2, you could be the proud owner of this hippo toilet water saver. This nifty design aims to reduce the amount of water used every time you flush the toilet, roughly conserving about 3 litres of water each time a toilet is flushed.
It works by inserting the hippo into the toilet cistern, and when you flush, the water confined in the hippo is saved. It may sound disgusting, but it's a great solution to saving water and saving you some money. The best bit is that it can be adjusted to suit each user, for example if it impairs the flush, then you can cut off one of the bottom corners of the bag.
It even has a small hole punched through both sides, which acts as a relief valve that in turn prevents stagnation of the water. Genius!
Water Drop Shower Timer, £4.99, By Nature
This cute little water drop is a timer that helps you to monitor how long you're in the shower each day. It works like a simple countdown, to make sure you aren't dawdling in the shower. It saves water, energy and above all money! It's funky too, as it comes in a duck and frog version, for the child inside you. Or if you do have kids, this is quite a good way to educate your child about saving water and making it fun too.
Energy Meters, £11.95, EcoSaver
In terms of energy saving, we're all looking for a solution to the spiraling costs of running a household. This gadget aims to offer a cost-effective way to measure the electricity consumption of things around the house, like everyday appliances.
All you have to do it plug the device into any socket and then plug any appliance that you wish to monitor, into the socket at the front. Now here's the clever part- the meter will then display the cost and usage of the appliance for you to view, and ultimately make some changes to lower your bills.
Powerplus Piranha Wind-up Shaver, £19.95, POWERplus
Wind-up shavers may not be on the top of everyone's Christmas list, but they are definitely worth a look. Imagine you're caught off guard one night with hairy legs or armpits, what's a girl to do? Well, fish out your wind-up shaver from your bag and get to work!
It gives you the freedom of shaving anytime or place, so you'll never have to deal with that pesky stubble again. All you have to do is wind the handle to charge the shaver, with 1 minute giving you approximately 2 minutes of shaving time.
