There are so many fashion labels hitting the catwalk these days that it's hard to keep track of who's who so Female First have come up with some simple conversation key notes to make sure you know what you're talking about in even the fashionable of crowds.

Alberta Ferreti- is described as one Milan's most inventive designers. She designs very soft and pretty creations with an unexpected twist that make them unique. She also designs the label Philosophy.

Alexander McQueen- is a British designer who caused a stir when he was hired as head of design at Givenchy while he was still relatively new to the fashion game. He's always one for controversy and once used clear mannequins lit from inside instead of models for his catwalk show and famously used a disabled model with a specially carved wooden leg too. He has won the British Designer of the Year Award three times.

Allegra Hicks- a London-based designer who describes her look as "grown-up bohemian". She originally worked in interior designs and has since turned her love of bold prints to fashion design. She is famous for her great printed kaftans, tunics and other wardrobe staples.

Badgley Mischka- American designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka set up their label in 1988. They are known for their signature beaded eveningwear. Badgley Mischka is a favorite of Hollywood stars and celebrities. They also design wedding gowns, daywear and seperates, all with their signature beading style.

Belstaff- is an old English company that have been making waterproof clothing since way back in 1924. They were forced to close in 1991 during the English textile industry crisis their army of fans were determined to keep the brand alive. The label was revived in 1996, Belstaff top man Franco Malenotti founded the Clothing Company to support a comeback. The response was immediate and sales went up through the roof especially with the introduction of ‘Reacta’ and the relaunch of ‘Black Prince by Belstaff’. A shoes and bag division was also created.

Betty Jackson- is another British designer who has become an international name. She specialises in feminine clothes that encourage comfort. She is known for creating classic styles that suit the everyday woman.

Bottega Veneta- is one of the most famous names in luxurious Italian leather. The label is most famous for it's coveted bags and shoes. German designer Tomas Maier has been the creative head of the house since 2001.

Burberry- is best known for it's trademark check fabric which sadly became the uniform of the chav in the late 1990s.However the label, which was founded over 150 years ago by Thomas Burberry, is still making waves on the catwalk. Burberry is known for a classic sophisticated English look with trenchcoats aplenty.
