The David Koma showcase is always a highlight on my London Fashion Week calendar, and thanks to the lovely people of Vodafone, official sponsors of LFW, I was sat waiting with anticipation of what would be coming next season.
It’s safe to say that he didn’t disappoint with his designs.
Not only was I able to celeb spot whilst waiting for the show to begin, but I got to see the incredible detailing of the clothing.
Inspiration for the collection came from the mysterious Japanese art of Kyudo, best understood as a form of meditation, this ancient Japanese practice is a meeting of Samurai martial arts and the spiritual practice of Zen philosophy.
Koma envisioned his woman as a strong and elegant warrior who dresses by the principles of balance, stillness and control. And this was easy to see through the leather panels, straight lines and shoulder-like armour.
The collection started out with a striking monochrome palate, later combined with soft pink, powder and bold blue and then a selection of all-black dresses and outfits.
The tailored dresses and co-ordinating separated focused around the opposition of the vertical and horizontal.
Whether a graphic A-line leather-framed dress, or a sharp asymmetric-collared jacket, this is a collection centred upon the ideal of achieving a perfect balance.
The dresses are made from thick jersey and silk, which help to dominate and take on a second, armour-like skin. Sheer yet stiff organza covers exposed shoulders, while provocative lacing manifested first in print, later encases the more seductive parts of the body.
Koma strives to unleash a woman’s hidden powers through her dress with this collection, and he manages to do so perfectly.
Expect to see these pieces on the red carpet soon. they're perfect for a sexy sultry look that the stars seem to favour.
