If your boyfriend got down on bended knee and offered you the world with an £18 engagement ring, would you be offended or consider it a mark of the times, where we're all struggling through the recession?
Marks and Spencer have come up with this new credit crunching option for the man who wants to buy the real thing, but can't quite afford it.
The bargain ring is made of tin, but is plated in platinum and diamanté encrusted, however the huge sparkler, which looks like it could take someone's eye out, is unsurprisingly a fake.
Where a hallmark would traditionally be, the ring has the M&S logo instead and will come in four sizes, just in case you're struggling to find the perfect fit.
M&S spokeswoman Rekha Kannan said: "These rings are for the bridegroom who wants the look of real diamonds but can't necessarily afford them.
"They are perfect for credit crunch weddings - they look really beautiful but you don't have to break the bank for them. You wouldn't know they're not real diamonds," reports Marie Claire.
So, over to you dear readers- would you really be impressed with this, or would you want to hold out until you could afford something better?
Are weddings ridiculously overpriced these days anyway, or is this just a step too far, asking brides-to-be to make-do with cheap rings? Let us know what you think...
