Chloe SS09

Chloe SS09

Fearne Cotton, Cheryl Cole and Rachel Weisz have all be spotted wrapping up in capes of late, forecasting a mini-trend for the upcoming months, leading us into spring.

With the fashion pack now turning its back on winter and preparing for all the new spring trends, a cape will update your look instantly and will ease you into the lighter coats already heading for the high-street.

Chloe and Givenchy presented capes at their SS09 shows back in September, which is perhaps unusual considering capes are usually associated with winter.

Chloe gave their catwalk show a romantic twist, by featuring a cut out pattern and styling it in one of the main colours of the season- nude. It was nice and light for the catwalk and will work well when adapted for the high-street, almost like a new version of the mac.

Givenchy too seemed to adopt a similar way of thinking for their show, featuring a beige cape teamed with an embellished shirt and cutaway leggings.

However, the new capes we've been seeing so far are all about making a statement; checks, military style and bright colours are the best styles on offer at the moment.

Here's our rundown of the hottest statement capes on the high-street...

Checks

Checks are back again for spring, but we're moving away from the masses of tartan on offer from last year, and focussing on a bigger, brighter and lighter check. This will look great worn with wet look leggings and fringed boots for a casual look during the day time.

Coloured

We love anything with a bit of colour here at FemaleFirst and this hot purple looks great. Keep an eye out for yellow, white and red capes too, as these will be big key colours come spring.

Military

The military trend refuses to go away, even for a season and once again it makes an appearance this year. The military cape is smart, chic and stylish and will make a great transitional coat for wearing to work when it starts to get a bit warmer.
